Jim and Rose's Asia Excursion

As soon as Tony got the job offer to work in Singapore, my parents literally purchased plane tickets the next day. Singapore was their jumping point of a month long Asia trip they planned back in April 2012. Other destinations included Philippines, Bali, Macau, and Hong Kong.

When I picked them up from the airport I was surprised to see my Dad coming out of customs in a wheelchair. I thought to myself there had to be a good story behind this.

I asked my Dad, "What the heck happened?" He winked at me while the nice helper at the airport was there and said, "I'll tell you later."  He hurt his leg a few weeks ago, but it healed mostly before the trip. However, his doctor told him not to put strain on it so he decided to travel in style with the chair. My Mom did all the work though trying to shuffle around 7 whopping suitcases! Luckily they had some help from Ahmed

After sleeping for over 12 hours my parents woke up from their slumber and we took them to the first destination, the Marina Bay Sands. It was raining hard that day so we couldn't go on the Sky Deck. Instead, we sipped some cocktails and ate snacks in their bar area.

One of the things my parents really enjoyed in Singapore were the hawker centers. We went to Maxwell Road Food Center twice to eat the rice porridge, duck noodle (my Dad was craving duck), and steamed buns (http://hawkereateries.com/the-maxwell-road-food-center). Then we went to Lau Pa Sat to savor the steamed dumplings and assortment of tropical fruits (http://www.laupasat.biz/).

Another destination which my parents enjoyed was Gardens By the Bay (http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/home.html).  We went inside the Flower Dome and all the flowers were beautifully decorated in a Chinese New Year theme.

My parents noticed right away that food was the main attraction in Singapore. We had them try many local dishes, but the star attraction was chili crab at Jumbo Seafood (http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg/).

We really enjoyed my parents' visit and hope they will come back again soon! Love you Mom & Dad!

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2013! We've been in Singapore for 6 months now which went fast! We went home to the U.S. for the holidays. First to Colorado to celebrate Christmas and then to California to ring in the new year. It was great to see family, friends, and eat Mom's famous dishes. In December we were getting homesick, so it was a nice dose of "home" remedy to boost our strength of living abroad.

Here are photos from Colorado.
