A Day in the Life of Hong Kong

Hong Kong has been on our list of destinations for quite some time. We really didn't plan to go this soon (it wasn't 3-4 months in advance like usual), but we decided to go for it. It was another holiday weekend and we had a number of frequent flyer miles to use. After cashing in the points we were able to fly business class. The journey itself was such a treat.

To keep the "business class" style going we opted to get one of the Club Floor rooms in our hotel. This is something we discovered traveling in Asia. If you stay in a Club room you're on a higher floor and have the benefits of free happy hour and afternoon tea in the Club Lounge. On our first night we loved our view so much we stayed in the Club Lounge until it closed. We actually saved money from going out for dinner. Instead we loaded up on many helpings of hors d'oevres and cocktails. Here are photos of our lively adventure in the streets of Hong Kong.

We were lucky enough to catch the giant "Rubber Duck" by artist Florentijn Hofman while we were in Hong Kong.  Apparently the duck travels all around the world.

We noticed how similar Hong Kong was to San Francisco. Some examples include:
1. The city/country was along the harbor
2. There are hills, skyscrapers, and cable cars
3. So much good Cantonese food and dim sum
4. It has fog!

Later that day we took a cable car up to the Peak to get a view of HK (http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/). However, it was so foggy we didn't see much until later in the afternoon. We tried our best to peep through the density.

For our last night in Hong Kong we went to the Soho district, which is the liveliest place in HK. They had a pedestrian street filled with bars and people all taking in the energy of the city. We found this tucked away, dark bar (our favorite kind) called Angel's Share (http://www.angelsshare.hk/).  It had an extensive whisky menu and knowledgeable bartenders who helped narrow down our choices.

We really loved Hong Kong and actually saw ourselves living here. It's the San Francisco of the East. Until next time stay live HK!
