A Broad Definition of Western Food

Before leaving for Singapore one of the foods we knew we would miss most was Mexican food. Thankfully Trisha's parents hired a Mexican chef to come to our going away party and cook tacos and quesadillas with three different types of meat.  We definitely ate our fill.  Now that we're in Singapore we found that anything that's not Asian or Indian food is considered Western food.  Everything from burgers, to pizza, Italian, Mexican, or French, or German food is called Western.  Sometimes a "Western" restaurant will have three or four types of food you can order.  One of the first Western restaurants we went to was Brotzeit, obviously a German restaurant.  We tried their sausages and of course their German beer.  Next time we go we plan to try the pork knuckle as it was recommended.

As for Mexican food we lasted three weeks before we set out to find what type of Mexican food exists in Singapore.  One of the reasons we went was because my friend Humberto recommended a place nearby.  If we trusted anyone's recommendation about Mexican food in Singapore it was Humberto's.  Last Friday we went to Senor Taco in the Chijmes center near Bugis.  First Trisha had two Al Pastor tacos and a margarita and I had an Al Pastor quesadilla and habanero beer (a Senor Taco specialty).  We'd love to show you pictures but in what is becoming a trend, we ate everything before we thought to take pictures.  I guess that's what happens when you love to eat. :)  However, the portions were small so we ordered nachos to share and another round of drinks. This time we did remember to take a picture.

While the food didn't quite compare to what you'll find in California it still was very tasty and satisfied our cravings for Mexican food.  It was also interesting to have guacamole with pineapple in it. Next up, Piedra Negra, another Mexican restaurant that has been recommended to us by multiple people.
